Burnham Square still has some room to improve in this part of his form cycle. And, he keeps Brian Hernandez, Jr. in the irons. Hernandez won the 2024 Kentucky Derby with Mystik Dan thanks to a very smart ride, and it's always a positive to see a proven Kentucky Derby rider in the saddle.
Kentucky Derby Longshots
There's always a long shot or two that runs well in the Kentucky Derby! The most interesting longshot in the field is Chunk of Gold. He ran second in both the Risen Star (G2) and the Louisiana Derby (G2), and he is a consistent closer. That means he gets a pace advantage with a lot of one-way speed in the race, and he'll be a price since connections Ethan West and Jareth Loveberry fly under the radar.
Also give a look to Grande for those exotics. He has only raced three times, but his wins at Gulfstream were impressive. He was only second in his final prep, the Wood Memorial (G2), but he had to chase a lone leader in Rodriguez that day. The fact that he could run well from a midpack style is a good dimension, and if he reprises that style, he'll get a lot more pace to close into.
