Bet on the Blue Grass Stakes

The Blue Grass Stakes is a major, Grade 1 event that draws some of the finest three-year-old, thoroughbreds on an annual basis. This race currently takes place at the Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Kentucky where thoroughbreds navigate a polytrack surface over a distance of 1 1/8 miles. Since 1937, the Blue Grass Stakes has taken place every year and since its beginning has served as an important preparation race for the Kentucky Derby, despite the occasional disruption. The first running was in 1911 at the Kentucky Association track.

2017 Blue Grass Stakes Contenders

In a wide-open renewal of the Blue Grass, the 2016 version featured 14 runners in a race that likely baffled most handicappers. But when the dust settled, it was the horse-for-course, Brody's Cause, coming away with the win for trainer Dale Romans. A grade 1 winner already over the Keeneland surface as a two year-old by way of the Breeders' Cup Futurity, Brody's Cause validated his form and reaffirmed his affinity for the Lexington oval with a grinding stretch move to reel in the frontrunners. In doing so, the son of Giant's Causeway punched his ticket to the Kentucky Derby and silenced many critics after his disappointing seasonal debut in the Grade 2 Tampa Derby. New York shipper My Man Sam made an impressive closing move to nip another Romans trainee Cherry Wine for second.
