On Friday, the Breeders Cup action kicks off at Santa Anita with the $1 million Juvenile Turf. The Grade 1 race will be run at one mile and has drawn a full field of fourteen with two other two-year-olds on the also-eligible list.

Hootenanny has been installed as the morning line favorite at odds of 3-1. Trained by Wesley Ward, the bay colt was the first winner for freshman sire Quality Road. Since his maiden win at Keeneland in Apil, the globe-trotting juvenile has competed in Maryland, Great Britain and France. He was last seen finishing second in the Darleu Prix Morny (G1) and will have Frankie Detorri aboard for the first time from post five.

War Envoy making stateside debut for O'Brien

Second choice at 9-2 on the morning line is War Envoy for trainer Aiden O’Brien who has saddle two previous winners of the Juvenile Turf. Bred in Kentucky, the two-year-old son of War Front began his career in Ireland with a winning debut. Though winless since, he has been competing against top stakes competition in Europe. Ryan Moore will remain aboard and they will break from post seven.

Royally-bred Imperia going for two in a row

Also in the field is Imperia for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin. The two-year-old colt, bred in Kentucky by Darley, is by Medaglia d’Oro and out of Chilean Horse of the Year and multiple United States Grade 1 winner Cocoa Beach. After a runner-up finish in his debut, he came back to break his maiden in the Pilgrim Stakes (G3) under Javier Castellano. Castellano will remain aboard and they will break from post eleven.
