Tip Tap Tapizar is the 3/1 morning line favorite for trainer Steve Asmussen after breaking his maiden at first-asking June 11 at Churchill Downs. The son of Tapizar looked precocious in that debut effort, settling calmly behind runners before powering home in the stretch. Asmussen’s success with juvenile runners is well-documented and this colts figures to improve with added ground and racing experience. Jockey Ricardo Santana will be aboard while breaking from post 3.
4/1 second choice Classic Empire didn’t get any favors in terms of post position as the Mark Casse trainee will break from the rail. The son of Pioneerof the Nile was also a first-out winner, easily besting a maiden special weight field May 4 at Churchill. Out of the Cat Thief mare Sambuca Classica, this colt is bred to run all day and is another one to watch regardless of the outcome of this race.
Recruiting Ready, also 4/1 on the morning line, will start from the outside post under jockey Edgar Prado. The Horacio DePaz trainee looked ultra-impressive May 28 beating a maiden special weight field at Pimlico and ships to Kentucky in search of a stakes victory. Recruiting Ready is a son of the precocious Algorithms, who retired prematurely, but unbeaten after winning the Grade 2 Holy Bull Stakes in 2011 and defeating the previously unbeaten Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner Hansen.
