Twilight Eclipse Back in Action for $200,000 Mac Diarmida Stakes
On Saturday at Gulfstream Park, the featured race is the $200,000 Mac Diarmida Stakes. Scheduled to be run at a mile and three-eighths on the turf course, the Grade 2 has drawn a field of seven colts and geldings.
The veteran gelding Twilight Eclipse tops the field as the morning line favorite at odds of 2-1 for trainer Tom Albertrani. Owned by West Point Thoroughbreds, the seven-year-old son of Purim is a multiple graded stakes winner and will be making his fourth appearance in this race. He was third in the 2013 edition, won the race in 2014 and was second last year. He has been freshened since an eighth-place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1) and will have Luis Saez aboard from post six.
Da Big Hoss going for second straight victory
Second choice at morning line odds of 3-1 is Da Big Hoss for trainer Michael Maker. A five-year-old son of Lemon Drop Kid, he has won eight of his sixteen starts and is a multiple graded stakes winner. He most recently was seen winning the John B. Connally Turf Cup Stakes (G3) at Sam Houston. Regular rider Florent Geroux will be aboard and they will break from post position four.
All Included trying for breakthrough win
Also in the field at morning line odds of 10-1 is All Included for trainer Todd Pletcher. A chestnut son of Include, he has been on the board in seven of his twelve starts and will be trying to earn the fifth victory of his career as well as his first graded stakes win. He has been third in both starts this year against graded stakes company and will break from the outside under John Velazquez.
